I stumbled upon Chuao a couple years ago. It must have been when I was researching Madécasse's competition. Madécasse is a small chocolate company I worked for that exports chocolate from Madagascar. Chuao caught my attention not because of the packaging or flavors, but because of the name. Chuao is a village in Venezuela known for its chocolate plantations. As a kid every time my family would drive by, my mom would say "quick quick open the window so you can smell the chocolate." When I heard of Chuao i knew it was Venezuelan, and certainly i later found that both brothers that founded the company were born in Venezuela.
Chuao Chocalatier grew was founded from the memories, history, and passion for chocolate the two brothers experienced at a young age. Their ancestors owned a chocolate plantation and they would often wake up to the smell of baked and cooked chocolate. Sounds like a kid's dream. Later in life they took on their family business and established it in San Diego, CA, which has become their hub from where they bring Venezuelan flavor to the rest of the world.
Sweet memories from the richest chocolate in the world.
